With that being said you also need to understand how the Red Ring of Death happens. There are some basic reasons for this. The first is heat. The 360 is full of very hot components in a small area. The unit deals with this heat by using fans and heat sinks to disperse the heat. However, because of the constricted space this cooling capacity is very restricted. What that means is that if whatever in the cooling group fails you will start to see needful problems. The second suspect is that Microsoft chose to go with a lead free solder. This solder is very fragile under high heat, so when the first thing happens, the second is more likely to fail. Thirdly Microsoft had a very poor heat sink design. Over time this clamp will fail under the changing stresses of the environment. With temperature changes the motherboard shifts and because the clamp was not well designed, it can fail. Lastly is naturally poor capability control in the manufacturing process. The heat sink sometimes will have left over foil that can cause a short.
If any of those things have occurred there are steps you can take to fix the unit. First off try to reboot the unit, it may come back to life. There could be a loose cable inside that is causing the problem so check to make sure all things is connected. It also may have overheated, so turn it off and let it sit for a while.
